More Fun Christmas Stuff!!

Merkin bought me a great gift! She got me a perpetual calendar with a new stitch each day! This is PERFECT because I was just working on a new patter for my OWN design of fingerless gloves, so this will be AWESOME to pick a stitch pattern for those! She also got me a few 'funny' gifts - but if I posted them in here, no one else would get the humor. ;-)

StepOnMe got me this hilarious knitting kit! It's a kit to knit a wallet with a sushi design on it! I'm going to make the one in the middle. I started this last night, and I can't wait to finish it! It's going to be my first endeavor into the wide world of felting. Too hilarious!

Thanks so much, ladies!!

Last night was super fun - dinner with the best pals! We did fondue this year for our 'New Year's' Celebration (please note that it was a day early). These girls can't make up their minds!! Haha. Teasing, ladies!!

Anyway, we finished our Christmas gift exchange and I got some SUPER fun presents!

A knitting Christmas

I got this SUPER fun bag for my knitting stuff! I got the biggest one and it has a cool pattern on the outside, and lots of great pockets on the inside!! Yee haw!!

I also got this great little box of patterns. It has 25 patterns that are printed on individual cards that are in full color with a bright picture of each project on each one. It's great to throw in your knitting bag with your needles and yarn and go!!

Also, I got these boye interchangeable needles!! They are JUST what I wanted - different colors, and metal! Perfection! Woo hoo for Christmas!!

My first eventing post?

I found this article just a few minutes ago. I don't think that there are any event riders out there that read my post, but I thought it was a good summary of the unspoken code of conduct of our sport. I'm probably just putting this here more for me to remember it than anything else!!

My Guide To Some Unwritten Rules Of Eventing
by Denny Emerson
November 17, 2006 Issue
(Reprinted by permission of The Chronicle of the Horse. Visit www.chronofhorse.com to subscribe.)
To our adult amateurs and young riders, we welcome you to the world of eventing. One
of the first items that you'll receive after you've joined the U.S. Eventing Association is
a rulebook containing the many regulations of our sport. What you won't receive is a
code of conduct, the "unwritten rules" that govern how those who've been eventers for
a long time act on a daily basis.
But you should learn them, because adherence to any kind of unwritten code is what
author Louis Auchincloss calls "obedience to the unenforceable." And it matters.
Every sport has a code of some sort, and, since veteran participants in any sport either
welcome newcomers who subscribe to the code or avoid those who don't, it might be
useful to understand some key aspects of the eventers' "ethic."
"Rule" No. 1 is that, because this is such a high-risk sport and because we're really all
in the same risky boat, eventers always help each other. If I'm at an event, waiting to
go out on cross-country, and I see someone who's just finished, I'll ask what to look
out for out there. That's because I know, beyond a doubt, that my fellow rider will tell
me everything he or she can think of to make my ride a success. Even if it means I
beat them. That will always be true. Always.
Or, if a rider discovers that a hole is developing on the left side of the landing in the
water jump, or that a blinding slant of sun is making a certain approach dangerous, he
or she won't simply go back to the barn or their trailer with that information. They'll tell
someone to warn the riders that follow, so that the problem will get fixed. "I help you;
you help me." That's something you can count on in this sport.
"Rule" No. 2 is to forget that slogan, "The customer is always right," as it applies to
your relationship with the event organizer. You aren't so much a customer as a guest
on someone else's property, usually someone who needs you a lot less than you need
them.
Organizers who provide the land over which we ride and compete are the very heart
and soul of eventing, without whom there literally is no eventing. So we all must be
respectful, polite and appreciative to the organizers.
If we see a real safety hazard, we have officials like the technical delegate to whom we
address our concerns. We don't complain to the organizer or to volunteers. We don't
leave trash. We conduct ourselves as if we were appreciative guests who want to be
invited back. In fact, it's almost a cliché among organizers that anyone who's never
organized an event shouldn't be allowed to ride in one, because only organizers can
understand the work involved.
"Rule" No. 3 is a corollary to "Rule" No. 2: Always try to do something to give back to
the sport. Volunteer to paint jumps, or park cars, or be a jump judge. Give something
back, either in time or money or expertise. We're not entitled to ride in events. We're
privileged to be the beneficiaries of other people's efforts and money and land, and we
all need to reciprocate.
If we lose this spirit of helping out, we shouldn't be surprised if organizers simply get
sick of providing the sport that we all so dearly love.
"Rule" No. 4: In rodeo, the toughest horse sport, the code is not to condone even one
minute of whining. "So you got bucked off in front of throngs of cheering spectators?
So you got hurt in the process? So? Suck it up, buddy, this is rodeo."
Well, eventing isn't quite as tough as rodeo. So how about allowing one hour of
petulant pouting, followed by one hour of silent sulking, after which, "Enough,
already!" Face it, the only person other than you who cares that you got a 3 in your
dressage test, or had a refusal at the water jump, is your mother. And even she can
stand only just so much of a crybaby attitude. Who ever heard of a sniveling cowboy?
Do you want to be known as the sniveling eventer?
"Rule" No. 5: Eventing isn't a particularly "glitzy" sport, where you can roll in with
multiple grooms, sit around idly until it's time to ride, and then after riding, hand your
panting horse off to some paid employee so you can go shopping or get your nails
done. Eventers appreciate horsemanship, a work ethic and a
do-it-yourself approach to making sure that your horse is healthy and happy.
Eventers know that many other horse sports aren't noted for this kind of an oldfashioned
ethic, and they hope that if you need the psychological stroking that being
coddled provides, you'll go ride in one of those other sports--and leave eventing to real
eventers.
"Rule" No. 6: Excellent event riders aren't apt to say things about their horses like, "He
won't go on the outside rein," or "He won't jump corner jumps." Instead they might
say, "I can't get him to go on the outside rein," or, "I'm having trouble getting him
straight to corner jumps." They blame the horse less and their own inadequacies more.
I could go on, but these are the kinds of "rules" you won't find in any book. But they're
more crucial to the continuation of eventing than any written rules. Yes, we all break
these rules some of the time, but usually we try to get back on track.
In general, eventers tend to judge other eventers according to their courage, their
"true grit," their commitment, their relationship with their horses, and their positive
attitude. Eventing is a risky, hard, down-to-earth sport, and it isn't for everyone.
"Obedience to the unenforceable" means just that. No one can force anybody to adhere
to or even subscribe to a code of conduct like this, but I can promise you that those
who do obey the unwritten rules are going to find themselves much more warmly
welcomed than those who don't.

Radar wants to be a centerfold.

So I had to run home on my lunch today, and I totally caught Radar in his model pose. I wish you could see how he really was when I got home - his back legs all stretched out and looking all sultry. It was hilarious, but this is a close second. And no, mom - I didn't make my bed this morning.

one down, one to go!

Well, the left one is done, but I have no time to work on the right one tonight. Christmas knitting to do as well as laundry, etc, etc, etc. Plus - I think I'm going to fall hard tonight as I went to sleep at 4:15 am!!

My post-Christmas knitting projects

This is a needle holder, and I want to make it with scraps. No big deal...

And I think this is SUPER cute, so I'm going to make some of these!!

Make sure to look at my post before this one. It's way more important!

My first cables!

Yay! My latest project is almost done. I started these fingerless gloves last night around midnight, and I almost completed one by about 4am today (after ripping them out 3 times, and then deciding they were going to be too big, so I started over a 4th time with 5 fewer stitches). I worked on these for about 15 minutes on my lunch today, and I am 5 rows (i.e. 5 minutes) away from binding off! Then I just have to do the thumb, which will take another 5. The second one should take me much less time since I'm back in the swing of things with knitting on dpns. I was so excited when Marie and I found this yarn yesterday. We'd been searching for it, and we found it!! Woo hoo! It was 25% off to boot! Anyway, I plan to finish the second one tonight and then back to Christmas knitting for me!!

Another finished project!!!

Yippee!! I did this one in 2 sittings, which is pretty exciting for me! It is a gift to go with some super fun handmade soap that I'm waiting to get in the mail! This is SUCH an easy washcloth to knit up, and it feels SO nice. I can't wait to make myself some after Christmas!!

Yippee!! I FINALLY get my new phone tomorrow! I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait!! WOO HOO!!

On a knitting note - I bought some really nice cotton yarn this morning for my washcloths that are for Christmas presents to go with this AWESOME handmade soap I bought. Maybe I shouldn't have put that in here...

OH! And a brand new....NO TWO brand new Campus Ladies episodes on tonight! DO NOT call me between 10 and 11 tonight (unless you're Steph or Marie!!!)

Ok, a post about knitting again.

So it seems like it's been a long time since I've posted about anything knitting related. AND, since I started this as a knitting blog - I felt like I owed you - my loyal readers - a post about what is going on in my knitting life. So, here goes!

Right now, I'm working on finishing that white sweater I've posted on here before. It is a Christmas present, so it has to get done! It is REALLY boring to knit though because I am in a part where it is just a lot of stockinette.

Also, I am working on a scarf for a Christmas present that I started last night. I am kind of doing my own pattern on that. I bought one skein of yarn, and I am using size 17 needles and doing a cool looking pattern I saw in a book I borrowed from StepOnMe. That should go really fast.

What else...hmm. Oh, I've got 3-4 more projects to start and complete by Christmas, but they're smaller and so I think I can do it.

So, sorry that there aren't any pictures. I at least wanted to post (unlike Merkin) and let everyone know what was going on!

The Evolution of My Cars

1986 Pontiac Sunfire - color: electric blue

1996 Eagle Talon - color: black (I LOVED THIS CAR!!)

2000 Pontiac Grand Am - color: maroon

These are the cars that have graced my life! I just bought the last one today! It is a 2006 Dodge Stratus - the coller is light silver fern. Why do they name them such dumb names?
Anyway, it was a stressful day, but I'm excited!
Now I get to drive my new car to work tomorrow in 12 inches of snow that we're supposed to get tonight! The first hard snow is going to be a big one!!

FOR REAL - My pledge

Ok, this is really serious. Starting tomorrow - effective 12:01 am, November 25th, 2006 - my FOR REAL diet starts. I wanted to put it in here so that people would hold me accountable. I want to lose 25 pounds by the end of January. This is probably unrealistic, but I'm aiming high. Don't worry - I won't be unhealthy about it. Just lots of working out and WAY MORE eating right.

So there it is. I'm not going to be fat anymore.

Saturday, November 18, 2006

Um.......wha???

Seriously - who comes up with this stuff?!?!

This kind of stuff is pretty frightening...wow.

Isn't he handsome?!

Tell me this - how can you NOT love that face?!

New project

So this picture totally doesn't do this really cool pattern or this fun yarn any justice - but I started a new project about 1.5 hours ago, and I wanted to share it. I'll take a picture with my camera when I find it (I used my phone for this one).
The finished project looks like it was super complicated to do, but this pattern isn't that bad. It's easy to keep track of where you are, but it makes you pick up stitches like mad! Also, I don't like increasing in a purl stitch. Too much thinking ;-)
So anyway, I wanted to share.
Goodnight!

Ok, so apparantly I forgot to say this was to be a scarf. Oopsie!

I'm DONE!!!!!!!!!!!

That STUPID black sweater is DONE DONE DONE! Who would have thought that I would actually finished it!

I'm at work - so hopefully I can post pictures tonight or tomorrow.

Yay me!

ALMOST done with sleeve #2. Going to finish it this morning before I go to work, and then sew it on tomorrow if I don't have time today. I'm almost done with that stupid sweater!!!

Well...

I have exciting news - but no pictures.

My black sweater is ALMOST DONE! I have one sleeve sewn on, and the other one is on the kneedles....

New phone for now :-(

So I'm doing a 'friendly user trial' of a new phone. And it's no where near as cool as my old phone. This phone has no camera, no internet capabilities - it's a pre-paid phone. Ugg...AND it looks like it was designed in 1973. I guess it is only for a couple of weeks...but still. Give me a break!

Friday, November 03, 2006

For realsies

So tonight, I am going to FOR REAL finish that black sweater. I am also going to start my next project (in this picture). I bought some mohair-ish yarn that I am going to use to alter this pattern into my own. I'm exited to get it going, but won't let myself start until the black one is done.

Yay!! - wish me luck!!

Oh, and Kathy - you can post now!!

Tuesday, October 31, 2006

I promise

So I promised the other day to my pals, StepOnMe and Merkin, that I would finish that stupid black sweater by last night - yeah, that didn't happen. I WILL finish it by Sunday, though. I just will.

There - it's in writing.

I'm off to drive to one of my least favorite places for a work meeting all day. Ick.

Happy Halloween!

RED RAZR!!!!!!!!!!!!

So my company is having this HUGE United Way Campaign in October. Also, we just had a HUGE product launch with the Motorazr V3m phone for Bono's Project Red to support AIDS treatments in Africa.

So you're wondering why I'm even talking about this, I sure. Well, Project Red donated 10 of the SUPER FUN phones to our United Way auction, and......I WON ONE!!!!!!! I am SO SO SO SO excited! Isn't it purty???

Tuesday, October 24, 2006

I have the best friends!!

StepOnMe Merkin

So yesterday was a pretty bad day - I was feeling pretty down and out. I had plans to meet up with two of my favorite pals, and had planned on calling them to cancel. I'm glad I didn't. They're the greatest pals out there - and it was some well needed therapy!

I originally met StepOnMe at my last company. She initially was my boss - but then I moved up to be 'co-boss' with her. It was a pretty el yuck-o company - thank God we're out of there!

I met Merkin through StepOnMe (StepOnMe hired Merkin to work with us). As I got to know Merkin, we learned that we're pretty much identical in MANY MANY ways (each of these discoveries has been pretty frightening) - and we do share a brain (which only really works out for one of us each day as the other is left without!!)

I'm not really one to post 'sappy' stuff, but I think this stuff needs to be said. They're both such wonderful friends, and I honestly don't know what I'd do without them! Thanks for being there last night (and always), ladies - it really helped.

Much love!

Next Project???

Ok, so I need some serious advice on this one. I'm THIIIIIIIIIINKING I like this sweater, so I think I'm going to make this my next big project. Does it look grandma? Does it look, how you say, "el frumpo"? Give me your honest opinions - (I know that goes without saying for those crazy Wysocki ladies!)

Ciao!

Incredidork

So this might be one of the worst pictures ever taken of me. It makes my nose and my chin look SUPER pointy. That's not embarassing at all...

'Someone' took this picture while 'he' was 'trying' my 'phone' at the store the other night.....hmm....

Great day - so far!!

Today has been a FANTASTIC day so far! I had a really good jumping lesson today with Harry. After that, I got to work and I got a NEW DESK CHAIR!!!!!!!!!!! :-D The old one was - well it was gross. There were some stains of undetermined origin...that concerned me.

ALSO, I got a really super awesome email today from someone that I hadn't expected to hear from - so fun!

Anyway - as far as knitting goes - I am about 1/4 of the way through the first of two (duh) sleeves for my sweater. Almost done....

Post some comments, folks!

Monday, October 16, 2006

Very disappointed.....

Well, I grafted the top of my Lace Leaf Sweater to the bottom tonight - and I am VERY disappointed. I do NOT Like the way this sweater looks, so far...and I am not really that motivated to finish it because I am not happy with what it looks like. This is some of my BEST knitting - very uniform, no mistakes, etc, etc...and it looks like poo.

I'm putting a picture in here for proof that I've gotten this far. All I have to do now is make the sleeves and sew them on - which I plan to do, but I am pretty sad. I was really hoping to like it more... Oh, I also have to adjust the tension on the Kitchner stitch...but that's easy. I'm too bummed to do it tonight. :-(

Harry's takin over!!

Well, Brooke's at work all day...and I noticed that she hadn't posted in a little while...so I'm taking her blog over for the night!

For those of you who haven't met me, I'm Harry. Nice to meet you! I thought that you should all see my new mask! Tell me what you think!

Scare-Fest 2006

Well, it wasn't so scary - and we didn't get much shopping done (thank God we have better taste than that!!)....but it was a good time.

It all started by getting the CLOSEST parking spot there was. We were really lucky to have been at the EXACT right place at just the right time. We really are some lucky ladies! Then they forgot me at Starbucks - probably because someone flooded the men's bathroom, but I don't know.

After all of that, we decided to walk through the craft fair first - to spend all of our money in our hot little hands.....well - we sure tried to find SOMETHING we would even consider buying...but alas - we could not. SO MANY painted wooden signs, tacky earrings, and fleece and/or tie-dyed items. Who'da thunk it in good ol' St Charles?

Anyway, then we went back to my house and they looked through all of my yearbooks - kindergarten on up (NOT AT ALL EMBARASSING!!!!) - while I played the role techie-geek-girl and unlocked my old phone for Marie.

All in all - it was a super fun day. I went to the barn and that put a big damper on my day, but I made it home and kicked some SERIOUS booty at Monopoly!

***So looking back over this post, I see how unorganized this one is. It isn't my typical post - and for that I apologize! I'll get back into the swing of things. Maybe more pics tonight after knitting at Steph's.***

Thursday, October 05, 2006

I found my blog!!!!

So I've been DYING to update ever since those crazy sisters took me out on the town for my birthday. I'm going to make sure that I update with pictures when I get home from work - but only if Steph re-links me to her blog site. Otherwise, the pictures will never been seen by the rest of you!!!!

Anyway, I haven't been able to update because I couldn't remember my blessed username on here. Geez...

Knit Night at Steph's

Tonight, we met at Steph's house for a night of fun, food, and knitting...two out of three ain't bad. My current project and I got in a HUGE fight. I said things I didn't mean, the sweater threw hurtful moments from our past back in my face.... It took us a while before we could reconcile. We made it through - and, though things are still a little rocky, we're on our way...we're on our way.

Anyway, it was fun to teach Kathy to knit, though of course Stephanie was better at teaching her. She did great! Ms Erin did a super job on her new project, too. Marie was a' truckin along on the same sweater as me, and Stephanie was running around playing Ms Fixit.

Sunday, September 10, 2006

Apparantly, I'm missing limbs...

So you might be confused in looking at these two pictures and actually think I succeed in making one for each leg that I seem to have....yeah, you're wrong. I just took the pictures on the 2 colors of backgrounds so you can see the colors in the legwarmer better.

I actually love these soon-to-be....ok, well possibly-to-be legwarmers. This was how I taught myself how to change colors and to carry the unused color up the side seam. I was pretty proud.

This pattern is also super cool...(but now that I say that, I'm not even sure I could find it again if I had to). They're slouchy and tapered a bit, so they seem like they'll stay in place for maximum warmness factors in the lovely winters we have here!

This is the end of my "UFO" postings - at least for tonight. Those are the only ones I have here with me. I have probably at least the same number of unfinished projects at my parents' house, but we'll leave those in the closet for now.

One good mitten deserves another....

I also started this mitten last winter when I got back into it...but after I got to this point, I realized these were going to be HUGE on my little hands...so I guess maybe I gave up. I couldn't make myself pull it apart though... Maybe I'll finish them one day for my buddy 'Man Hands Laura'.

Fingerless gloves - not to be.

Ok, so this one isn't much better than the previous two. This was a project I started last winter when I got back into this whole madness I like to call "knitting". I was going to make these fingerless gloves - and apparantly I got bored. Something new....

Hobo bag and fuzzy red scarf

So these two are the blacksheep of my collection of projects. This one to the left is at least completely cast on....which is more than I can say about this red scarf I am making. I didn't even finish casting on the stitches. I think my problem runs deeper than even I realized......
